USCGA Clinches Fifth Straight Superintendent’s Trophy Over USMMA

<p>Men's Tennis - Bears Beat Merchant Marine; Clinch Superintendent's Trophy </p>

<p>KINGS POINT, N.Y.--(4/6/08)--Coast Guard beat rival Merchant Marine 8-1 and also clinched the Superintendent's Trophy awarded annually to the Academy which wins the most athletic contests between the two schools.</p>

<p>Coast Guard, which has never lost the Superintendent's Trophy, has won seven of the 12 athletic contests (7-5 lead) this season with just softball remaining.</p>

<p>Ryan Beck (No. 1 singles), Chris Pappe (No. 2 singles), James Vuckovic (No. 3 singles), Brett Sillman (No. 5 singles) and Vince Falco (No. 6 singles) all won their singles matches.</p>

<p>Coast Guard swept the doubles play as Beck and Pappe (No. 1 doubles), Tim Ozimek and Falco (No. 2 doubles) and Vuckovic and Sillman (No. 3 doubles) all picked up victories.</p>

<p>The Superintendent’s Trophy </p>

<p>In 2003, the schools jointly established the Superintendent’s Trophy. This contest pits USCGA against USMMA but for the entire academic year. One point is awarded to the winning school after each match, giving all sports equal weight. The school with the highest score is presented with the Superintendent's Trophy in a halftime ceremony at the Secretaries' Cup football game, with the winning school keeping possession of the trophy until the next year. </p>
