Hope they realize the mistake to FoxSpectator and other people and release the online decision NOW.

^not a bad idea @FoxSpectator should email or call them about it

Fox has been very, very kind to provide information despite the disappointment they must be feeling. Rather than asking Fox to continue to relive that disappointment, it might make more sense for one of you waiting to make the inquiry - “A friend of mine has received their decision online, but I cannot access mine yet - has there been an error?” might be a way to approach it.

@FoxSpectator - Thank you for helping the other applicants and I am sorry things did not go your way at USC. I am certain that you have great options before you and that great things are ahead. Regardless of USC’s admission decision, in my view you have demonstrated everything the Trojan Family is about. Fight on.

So I have been watching this thread and thought of chiming in. While I am disappointed with USC’s IT mishaps, I feel students should really just check the portal on decision day. This kind of “trying to read into status updates” can cause unnecessary anguish and sleepless nights and anxiety. In the end, college does not define you. You guys will all be successful whereever you go.

And to all hoping for USC, your families are all ok with the ~65K cost /year ? Even if EFC is low, the money has to come from somewhere - usually loans.

Anyway, I agree with the other parent that posted -enjoy and stop stressing and trying to figure out the admission status. Dont trust anything unless you get officially notified. And USC, please fix your IT team ! that really is inexcusable…having someone dig in and see the rejection letter.

@fall2016parent - just to clarify - foxspectator did not ‘dig in’ to see the rejection letter. It is posted on
their status page that their decision is available with a link to the letter. For some reason, their’s posted earlier than the 29th.

^ then that is even worse. Sorry I work in IT and that sort of thing would get heads rolling …

The previous coding mishap, however, was obviously not meant for students to find. This isn’t an uncommon thing and not unique to USC. It has happened so many times.

For example-- a similar thing happened about a week ago (with much much greater consequences) in this year’s Residency match — when savy med students found a way into the code and found out days early where they had matched at. Like here, someone reported it and it was shut down. In this case they acknowledged the problem without confirming the correctness of the advanced look.

I simply think that some programmers underestimate the skills of current students to find information when they are motivated. I think they are too busy trying to set stuff up to go on time without glitches to truly see if there are any backdoors/loopholes to be exploited. No malice on anyone’s part.

Just as an aside, do any other CS types think it’s weird that the student’s name and ID number are hard-coded into that FA status page? I’m not trying to read anything into this, really, just something I noticed (as a former database programmer) that has me wondering… they must have some code that generates the code for these pages. Wouldn’t it just be easier to use a variable that is grabbed from a master database of names and numbers?

Hey, its something to think about OTHER than admission decisions!

@Sweetbeet as a programmer, I am guessing FA reads student names/IDs from application DB, then loop through all the names/IDs as key to search for admission DB to get the class/major. That’s why name/ID look like hard coded.

That makes sense.

why don’t they just disable all logins till the 29th?

Cupksdad because there are more than just freshmen trying to check their status around this time. And sometimes they ask for spring grades, midyear reports (for freshmen), etc.

have any of you had the glitch on the admissions application status come and go? I called them today about mine doing that and they told me usually once it is fixed it stays fixed. they said check again Friday. If on Saturday you can’t see your information on usconnect, call them MONDAY…I will be dead by then. SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Anyone else’s Admissions Status link disappear?

Yes, they found the second glitch and removed the link totally.

A top school like USC should have a better IT department.

@AZParent what was the second glitch?

@Az6396 Some of the decision letters were posted already.

Did anyone else notice that ‘admission status’ is now gone from uscconnect?

yes… they took it down altogether now.

The "Admission Status " is not showing up on USCconnect for my D’s account page. It was there this morning and now has disappeared.
