USConnect question/speculation?

I just logged on to my portal to check my FA status and on the top right it said:

Class: Undergraduate
Major: Business Administration

I don't remember seeing this before.
I applied to the WBB with business admin as my first choice major and chemE as my second choice. Does anyone know if this means anything? Maybe that I was accepted into my first choice? The follow up to that is does anyone have their 2nd choice major as the listed FA major?

This is just speculation and probably does not mean anything.

Communications from financial aid are not an indication of acceptance. However, this is not a communication but rather an update and may or may NOT (as you sensibly point out  ) mean anything. Your idea to see if anyone has their second choice major is a good one - that would suggest a specificity that could build a case for it “meaning” something. In the past, transfer applicants found that logging into OASIS and seeing a STARS degree progress report with their major listed was a reliable indicator, but I recall that OASIS has dire warnings about logging in before acceptance (warnings often ignored by your predecessors  ).

So it may just be a standard financial aid update. As financial aid updates in the past have occurred over a period of several days, students who do not see this message should not assume bad news. Good luck to all!

My S’s status says Unknown for both class and major. Is your application still in review?

Wow. My sons major says Undecided. This was not there before and he applied to both IMGD and Viterbi CS (Games) (second choice).

Oh and for class it says Undergraduate.

Mine says ‘undergraduate’ and ‘accounting,’ which was my first choice major.

I’m guessing that “Class: Unknown” and “Major: Unknown” isn’t good news. :frowning:

If he gets accepted to USC but neither of his majors and has to linger as undecided and try to do an internal transfer… Dear Lord why couldn’t you just give us a clear yes or no?

I need to stop speculating on this. This means nothing right?

Mine says “undergradute” and “communication”, that’s my first choice major.

I am experiencing a purgation of every feeling except fear right now at the fact that my major and class is still unknown.

@IntermsOf

I feel the exact same way. I thought I had a legit shot. Now, I’m just expecting rejection…

If it helps, I was accepted for the merit scholarships and my major is up on the page too. :)

I guess that means I’ve been rejected lol, mine is still written as unknown.

@JCCsMom My financial aid application still says under review. I wouldn’t give up hope or put too much into this financial aid and admissions are two separate offices and having the major listed could just be a sign that they have processed you before others…but then again it would make sense for the admissions to send the people they have already decided to accept to financial aid so they can finalize their packages…Is there anyone else other than gamergal that has their second choice major or undecided listed?

My first pick major is listed on the financial aid…but then again I never checked this part of USConnect so I wouldn’t say it means anything…

Don’t assume anything until you see something official. It does help to temper expectations - but the updates or lack of them isn’t necessarily an indication of an acceptance or a denial.

To mention once more: even if what you are seeing means anything or not, you are seeing it on the financial aid tab AND every year for the past several years financial aid updates have NOT been all at once, but rather continued over a period of weeks through mid-April. If it is an accidental peek at the admissions results (and we have no firm evidence that it is), do not assume that no update means bad news - it may just mean that they haven’t gotten to your file yet :)

@alamemom what do you mean by “dire warnings”?

As I recall from posts (I did not see the warnings myself 'cause I’m not a student), there was something on the OASIS log-in page saying it was for admitted students only and log-in attempts would be logged by USC… Intrepid applicants forged ahead and did all kinds of electronic gymnastics in attempts to read the tea leaves - I am remembering that transfers saw their STARS degree progress report with term of entry (spring or fall) and that actually turned out to be a reliable indicator of acceptance. It is IMPORTANT to note that some of those who did not see the STARS report initially were later accepted (transfers are accepted over an agonizingly long period of as much as 6 weeks between June 1st and mid-July) and the STARS report updated at that time. I do not recall freshmen applicants seeing a STARS report in advance of acceptance.

As you are a transfer applicant, you may be able to use the OASIS method to read your tea leaves later on, but don’t expect anything until after June 1st at the earliest - you have a LONG way to go yet! Try not to stress too much :)

Good luck!

My S’s is still “unknown unknown”. I am feeling bummed, but trying to hope that it might just not be processed yet. We do have a complicated financial picture (both parent self-employed).
