Use AP credit or retake Bio I for Pre-Med?

I'm planning on being a pre-med student at UF entering fall 2009 and I know that most medical schools won't accept AP credit for biology. At the same time, I also understand that they will take higher level biology courses to replace the bio requirement if I do decide to use my AP bio credits. But I run into a problem with the fact that I have 65 AP credits to use, and UF only takes 45. So if I decide to use my 8 credits of Biology, that's 8 credits of something else (like english composition, which i don't like) that I will have to retake instead. So my question is, am I just better off retaking Biology I so that I don't have to make up other GE requirements and that I'm on the safe side with medical school requirements (and so that I get a refresher, since I took AP bio in 10th grade.) Or should I use my AP bio credits and take higher level courses my first semester while also retaking something like history or english comp? And if I do decide to use my AP bio credits what higher level biology course could I even take?

I am totally and completely against any form of general course, since they are often worthless and are often harmful to one’s GPA simply due to the stupidity of the curves involved. Therefore, I would suggest taking higher level bio courses instead (although they can still be quite stupid).

You may want to check this, but someone told me that med schools don’t take AP credit, so in essence you would need to retake bio 1. I was planning on opting out of Calculus until I heard this. I still haven’t gotten a chance to research it yet, so it’s not 100%.

Despite having AP credits, I re-took Bio 1 in the Spring. I am so glad I did this, for two reasons: I did well in the course, and I also understand the material so much better than I did in high school.
If you’re completely comfortable with AP Bio material, go ahead and take genetics or something… but if you want a great refresher/good grade, re-take BSC2010.

If you use your AP credits wisely, you can almost completely be done with gen-ed credits before you start. Gen-ed requirements add up to only 36 credit hours so with the exception of diversity, you might be able to knock off all your gen-ed before you start.

My d’s in a similar boat, only with engineering. She has tons of AP credit, so she’s using all of it to complete the gen eds (except diversity as there’s no option there). But she’s not using her physics credit. First of all, she loves physics and does well … and is looking forward to those classes. As she’s debating chemical engineering/mechanical, now leaning towards chemical (again), she’ll take her AP chem credit for 2045 (which is sufficient for mechanical) or take Chem II in the spring, which she would need for chemE.

They won’t take AP Calculus if you so happen to have taken it.

Who won’t take AP calculus? I know UF does for sure, and most med schools take it for at least one semester, which is fine with me since I plan on taking calc 3 anyways.
