Use of 529 Plan funds for expenses for paid summer internship that is for college credit

My son will be having an paid internship this summer out of state. We will be paying the tuition to his school for the
credits he will be earning and that will come out of his 529 plan. The company he is working at is furnishing housing and he is only responsible for his food/groceries. In trying to research this, it is unclear if he can be reimbursed from the 529 for the food expenses (non restaurant of course) he will incur. Does anyone have a definitive answer from their tax person, CPA or the IRS?

Look at Publication 970, but from I have googled so far, it seems that the student has to be enrolled at least halftime for room and board to be qualified expense for 529.

How many credits is he earning? And is the only payment for the internship the housing?
