Does it make sense to buy used books sight-unseen? Are they generally in pretty good shape or are some really marked up? Instead of ordering in advance, is it better to wait to pick out better used book?

thanks

If you can get a better price on internet sites, buy it... I've bought tons of books at amazon.com (not necessarily txtbooks though) and never been burned on condition. Just make sure you are definitely going to take the class so you don't have to worry about returning the book (if you drop the class.)

It all depends on the seller. Generally, the powersellers on amazon and half.com with good ratings are legit and dependable. Low-volume student sellers are also a good bet since they want to ensure a good rating, but in my experience, they tend to overrate the condition of the book.
