In the fall I'm going to be attending a smaller state college to gain my Associates, and save money, with plans to later on transfer to a larger and more renowned University. I was wanting to major in English (with a possible minor in media studies) or Mass Communications, and go back and get my masters depending on which subject I pursue. I thought both these majors would be useful, seeing as I want to work somewhere within media (promotion/production/writing), but the more I learn about these degrees, the more I seem to notice they are dubbed "useless." What are your opinions?

Excellent writing skills will never go unrewarded, it just depends on how you apply them. If you know how to tell people about your skills and experience, it doesn’t matter exactly what major you pick.

Looking at the statistics from that study released a few days ago, English majors do just fine. Don’t worry too much about the popular perception.
