Anyone know what a "folklore and mythology" or "Victorian Studies" major does after college?

::scoffs:: Paralegal w/ a degree from Princeton!?

You can be the next Tolkien or Terry Brooks and write super cool sci/fantasy books! =)

Is a major in International Studies useless?

Yes, it is.

Why? What if I intend to get a graduate degree in International Law?

philosophys prolly more useful than like, english major.

I have come to the conclusion that majors in psychology, english, sociology, philosophy, history, english, and political science are all worthless, and I currently am a poly sci major. I had planned to minor in history so I might as well just jump off a cliff.

yes, let's. maybe all the useless majors should just create their own little liberal world, and all be useless together.

Define useless. If you mean things like good food, expensive wine, traveling, or enjoying life -- then ok, I'd agree that liberal arts majors are useless. Nothing is useless, things just don't always fit in with a specific objective. If your objective is a high starting salary (emphasis on starting), then a liberal arts major isn't the surest path to it. However, if your objective is doing something that will lead to personal fulfillment, then I would have to disagree, but it all depends on the individual person's interests and goals.

I would say that all majors are useless if you're stupid, and useless if you're smart -- making a lot of money is dependent on the person, not the major. If you think that people will give you money just because you have a piece of paper with engineering or finance on it, then I would say that your brain is useless.

A Philosophy major is very useful...but just in case it isn't, I'm also a neuroscience major.

Poli Sci is useless!!!

My last roommate's gardener apparently graduated from Juliard...
there you go.

well philosophy majors can make you loads of money as an artist. throw some paint on a canvas/tile/cloth/whatever and convince someone to pay lots of money for it.

philosophy, art, poly sci, communications all are kinda useless. Prove me otherwise (in a money sense)
