USF over FAMU?

I've been accepted to both USF(for summer) and FAMU(for fall). I'm having a hard time making a decision between the two. I want to major in business and FAM has one of the best business schools in the state. It's a 5 year program for a master's degree. USF has a good business program also & I know a degree from USF would be a bit more appealing in the long run.
One thing deterring me from USF is that it's so large, hundreds of students in the classroom will take away from me learning on a personal level. FAMU's class sizes are alot smaller, never over 100 students.
Living in Orlando, Tampa is alot closer to home & USF allows cars for freshman as to where FAMU does not. I'm worried that living in Tallahassee could be a bit of a distraction, because it's more of a college town than Tampa is.
Florida A&M is appealing to me because I'm looking for a good time, as well as a good education. I know I can get both of these there. & USF is more convenient and could be better in the end.

Any suggestions? Or input? I'd be more than happy to hear it (:

I would suggest FAMU. Transportation wouldn’t even be bad in Tallahassee because it’s a smaller town and although you can’t have a car your freshman year, you won’t really need one. The campus shuttle AND the public transortation is free with your rattler card.

Take this in consideration though, this might be a little bias all because i like FAMU overall!

We sound a lot alike, Business majors that got into both. I’m choosing USF because of location to my house (I’m near Orlando), the size (I prefer a larger school just for the connections), and the long turn weight of my degree. While neither school is really well known outside of Florida USF’s will have a little more weight because of the issues FAMU is going through. My friend who goes there cays that because of all the problems that have been going on, they may lose their accreditation for a few years, which won’t look good.
Also the environment around USF is better to me. I haven’t visited FAMU but everyone has told me that there isn’t much to do outside of the schools (FAMU and FSU) because it’s such a college town. I have been to USF and the entire area is a place that when you leave off campus you can find a whole new life. Some areas around there also seem like a good place to live for the long run, if you’re looking into staying in the area after you graduate.
Those are my reasons for choosing USF over FAMU.

Just FYI, FAMU is in no danger at all of loosing it’s accreditation.

Thanks for the correction :)

It just seems like after all the stuff you stated, that you have more Pros for FAMU than you do for USF

I’m sure you can get a sound education at either institution: across the board though, academics are stronger at USF than FAMU. The most obvious difference between USF and FAMU is racial diversity. USF is racially diverse; HBCU FAMU’s student body is over 94% Black or African American. USF’s racial/ethnic makeup is much closer to the real world; FAMU seems to be a throwback to the segregation era in America. I’m sure many FAMU students select FAMU primarily for social reasons and because FAMU is a HBCU.

No it doesn’t seem like that. I think you’re just seeing all the positives in FAMU because you’re in LOVE with that school, based on all your other posts on the FAMU forum.

HBCUs are the same as segregation?? Because other races are banned for going there, and would have police with dogs and firefighters with water hoses called if they dared to attend that institution. And USF is not ‘closer to the real world’. America and the world are way too diverse to say that that university represents it all. There are places that would have a social make up similar to FAMU as well as one similar to UM. I don’t understand why you would attack someone for wanting to experience what it’s like to, for once, learn their history, experience a lack of racism, and learn what it’s like to be in the majority unsteady of marginalized.
/ end rant
To the OP’s question, I’d pick the school that you feel the most comfortable at, you are your own motivation, if you succeed or not is all dependent on you.

One could argue that over 94% of FAMU’s students practice voluntary segregation. The explicit purpose of an historically black college like FAMU is to benefit Black and African American students.

I’m not attacking anyone. If a student wants to attend FAMU because they feel they’ll benefit more at FAMU than at USF…go for it!

@Fayth93, She said USF is bigger and that FAMU is smaller. The only benefit she said she would get from USF is that it might help her out in the long run So TECHNICALLY she’s stating that FAMU has more Pros but in my first statement I did say it might be bias because i LIKE FAMU so my other posts don’t matter in this case. It’s her choice , I was just stating my opinion.

Yeah its all good, I though you were saying that I was stating more posts as to why FAMU was better. I didn’t realize you were talking to OP. Sorry bout that! :)

Lol Oh no ! I wasn’t saying that to you but Okay !
