Using Community College Courses to Prep for AP Exams?

<p>Hey everybody,</p>

<p>At my school, I ran out of room on my schedule to take a certain AP course that was offered at my school, so I have decided to instead take the course at a local community college. Can I still use the community college course as a way to prep for the AP exam and to still take the AP exam this year? Thanks!</p>

<p>At my high school, we could register for the AP exams even if you didn’t take the course–you just had to pay the fee.</p>

<p>I don’t see why not. However you may want to buy a prep book anyway to look up all the topics that could be on the exam and review those that the CC class might not cover.</p>

<p>Anyone who wants to shell out the money, can take the AP exam. If you want to prep independently it is perfectly fine.</p>

<p>What makes no sense however, is to take a real college course at your local community college in order to get ready for an AP. The AP exams are designed to demonstrate whether or not you have accumulated the knowledge equivalent to what you would have learned in an introductory level college course. You don’t need an AP exam to show what you have actually learned in a college class - your CC grade will show that! Not to mention that the likelihood of the credits earned at the CC transferring are probably very good!</p>
