I applied to Villanova Regular Decision. I have all of the qualifications for Villanova except SAT scores. My gpa is above their average and i have many extra curricular activities and achievements in high school. Many of my friends are using letters from alumni and people affiliated with the schools they are applying to. I happen to know an important alumni at Villanova, but I said i did not want him to write a letter becasue I wanted to get in by myself. However, do you think this is a bad idea since everyone basically uses letters? Am i just hurting myself?

I would, just to solidify your chances. It definitely cannot hurt. Sometimes it is necessary to do what you have to do, even if others do not have the same opportunity. Good luck!!

I would if I were you. I had a letter from an alumni and I was accepted EA this year to the business school. Like he said, it can't hurt and you mine as well use what you have. You are lucky to know someone, so take advantage of it!
