Hi! I don’t necessarily want to use “race” as in i was discriminated against. If you’ve ever watched the show “black-ish” , it is a comedy sitcom about a black family living in a suburban neighborhood, with not a ton of diversity and how the Mom and Dad in this family is bringing them up. I wanted to kind of “base” my essay off of that idea, of how I was often the only person of color in my class, growing up in a suburban area. I have not faced racism or discrimination, but it taught me how to embrace cultures and be connect with people within school and society. I wanted to make it more light-hearted and “satirical”, rather than dark. Is it a risky essay prompt?
That’s an ok topic.
I like it - it’s positive. I think it could also be important to weave in that you haven’t experience discrimination or racism. That shows you have had a positive experience and says something good rather than the typical negative.
