<p>The USMMA Alumni Association announced that on Tuesday, March 27th the Congressional Board of Visitors for the US Merchant Marine Academy met with Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, Maritime Administrator David Matsuda, Interim Superintendent Shashi Kumar, and other key DOT/MARAD staff members. </p>
<p>The meeting was chaired by Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV - Chairmain of the Senate Commerce, Science & Technology Committee) and the Board discussed the strategic plan, academy budget, capital improvement and other academy issues. Also attending were Long Island Congressional Representatives Peter King (R-NY), Gary Ackerman (D-NY) and Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). It has long been a goal of the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation to have these meetings on a regular basis. We thank all alumni who assisted in this effort and put forth in the AAFs legislative action plan.</p>
