What careers/ majors are encouraged for the program? Would I be able to pursue a pre-med program in college and eventually become a doctor? Or would I be limited to a few professions that correspond with being an officer in the Navy?

Also, what opportunities are available in terms of choosing a college? I am currently enrolled as an incoming freshman at the University of Minnesota but am interested in attending another university on the east coast possibly (I chose the U of M because of financial considerations, not because of an inability to gain acceptance to some of these prestigious schools). Could I apply for acceptance to another school for the 2013 year? Or would I have to wait for the 2014 year, taking a gap year or transferring?

In terms of positioning in the Navy, how does an NROTC education at a top university compare to being a graduate of USNA? If I don't gain acceptance to the Naval Academy, is this the best option? I know I can pursue medicine at the Academy, is that something I can do with NROTC also (including medical school)?

Please let me know some of the details of this program and whether it is the best option for me. (33 ACT, 4.2 GPA, summa cum laude, 4 varsity sports, etc.)

NRTOC is a great option.
So is USNA.
They will both get you to the same place, more or less.

Depends on what type of environment you want to spend your next 4 years in.

If the goal is medical school, however, be aware that choosing USNA brings with it a limited number of spots available for that option- you will need to be at the top of the class, not so easy in a sea of the “best and the brightest.” Medical school options range from 15-25 spots per graduating class, give or take depending on the “needs of the Navy” at the time you do your service selection in your final year at the academy, so not a guarentee, and you still have to apply-and get accepted- to a medical school. But it can be done.

Speak to your guidance dept at the college you are in now, and see what options they have for an NRTOC program, either at your school or at an affiliate. You can transfer to another college at any point if that is your question, that is to any other college except USNA.

If you apply to USNA, you will start with Plebe year- meaning, 4 full years at the academy. While you may be albe to validate out of some classes (depending on what you are taking now, and how well you score on the validation exams at USNA), and in doing so, lighten up your senior year of classes a bit (and maybe even get to do graduate courses the second half of your firstie year), you still need to spend 4 years at the academy, no matter how many years of college you have under your belt.

Not sure if this addresses all of your questions, but you can follow up with more specifics as needed.
