Ut Austin eligable?

I’m currently a junior in highschool about 3/4 done with the year. I’m top 17% of my class and have a 2.7 gpa. I’m in a lot of honor and ap classes. I have slacked my 9th and 10th grade year. I have yet took the act or sat since I will be taking them In April. Would there be any chance I could get into the top 8% my senior year if I take ALL ap classes? And if not will I still have a chance in getting into ut austin? I plan in majoring in neuroscience. I am in a couple of clubs and in nhs.

Probably won’t get into top 8%, how is your gpa so low and yet you are at top 17?

My highschool is not competitive when it comes to academics and is more focused on athletics.

Assuming you are instate, you would need to scale to the top 7% in your class by the end of this year because you will need a rank before December 1st. So it’s not looking good. If you can really, really rock your exams and your classes this year, you may be able to get into the CAP program. You would attend a branch campus for a year. I don’t know a lot about it, I was auto admit, but I have several friends doing it. From what I’ve seen, it’s a wide net. People barely outside of the top 7 (4.5ish?) and people with GPAs in the low 3s (weighted for both) got it. I would do some research on that to see if you would have a shot there.

Another good idea would be to apply to A&M where you could possibly get Blinn Team, which is CC for 2 years and main campus for two years. They also have a CAP program like UT with branch campuses. I’ve seen people with a 3.14 (weighted) get the CAP program there.

The same people who got CAP at A&M got into UTD. You wouldn’t be going to UT (though you could certainly try to transfer), but it’s a nice campus with nice dorms and classes.

Another big state school you could look at is LSU. Basically everyone gets in there.

Some tips: apply as early as possible. It’s a big deal at Texas schools. I don’t know why, but it is. Also, put a lot of effort into your test scores. Texas has a really amazing auto admit policy where you could get auto even outside of the top 10% or so if your tests are high. PM me and I’ll try to find the spreadsheet about that for you. Also work on your GPA obviously. Stay in the clubs you’re in. You’ll need to look well rounded, but in all honesty it’s a numbers game at big state schools. You either have it or you don’t.

PM me if you have any questions (I’m a senior admitted to UT and A&M, so I’m pretty familiar with their process and requirements) and for that spreadsheet. I’m not gonna lie, it’s going to be tough to make these schools happen, but with a lot of work (a LOT) you could possibly make it happen.

STUDY!
