I’m currently a junior with 4.55 gpa weighted and 4.0 unweighted at a small private school.
I’m either right at the 6% (which is the auto admission) or at least for sure in the top 10 percent.
My SAT score is 1410 for the first time. I plan to take it again.
My question is, Idk which choice is better out of these two.
Apply to the Moody school of communications with the honors program (less competitive I think)
Apply to the McCombs school of business and no honors program.
Idk how better it looks or is to be in the honors program, so I can’t decide.
I don’t want to stress out so much to be in the UT BHP since their avg sat is like 1500. But I also feel like just being in the business school is good enough?
Is it better to major MIS in the UT school of business than to be in its school of communication with the honors program?
Also, please let me know how much chance I have for both choices 1 and 2.
Thanks.
@Bb0510 I would recommend that you apply to the school that has the major that you want to study, and, of course, if an Honors program interests you, apply to honors in any major. An application is so much more than stats, so don’t sell yourself short! There is no way to “game” the admission system at UT (or anywhere else) and you should never sacrifice your own academic and professional goals just to do so. You have worked too hard to settle. If you are unsure of your desired major, a good place to start is on both the Moody, McCombs and their respective Honors websites and look at what industries and employers hire graduates. See which path leads you to the right place. Good luck!
I have a bachelors degree in communication. I had to go back to school and switch careers because job prospects were not there. You’re much better off in a business degree with no honors. In fact, if you don’t get into McCombs you’re far better off getting a business degree somewhere else than a communication degree at UT.
