Hi guys,
So I have to decide between UT Austin honors program or a 7 yr bs/md program in my hometown where I do not even have to take the mcat. However, I do desire to leave my hometown.
Most importantly, the school for the 7yr bs/md program does not have a strong lgtbq community, while UT does. I am still in the closet and want to come out in undergrad. Do you think UT's lgtbq community is amazing? Is it worth giving up an automatic admission into med school? How is the dating life?

It depends ut is building a med school funded by bill gates, so you know it’s going to be very top notch.

I would go in a different direction and ask you how sure you are about being a doctor. If you are laser focused on this goal, the bs/md could be worth it. You will save time and money. You will lose out on non academic activities, perhaps including discovering your interests and coming out.

Is the bs/md program in a good sized city? Does the school have lgbt student groups? I bet it does.

I spoke to ut and they said that it will be very difficult to get into the new med school, and ut undergrads will not be given preference or anything. The BS/MD program is in a large city and they do have a large lgtb group except it is not as active as ut. Plus the dating scene will not be as good compared to ut. and I am laser focused on becoming a physician.

What type of medicine do you want practice? No MCAT, Are you afraid to take the MCAT, personally that would make me worry abit about the quality of student aloud into the program.

Well, this dilemma really focuses the pros and cons of a bs/md program. If you go there you move more quickly along the road to being an MD, but you sacrifice elements of your personal life and growth.

If you are smart enough to get into bs/md, you could likely make it the usual route. Is coming out and exploring that side of yourself worth taking the longer path?
