Sorry if listing everything was unnecesary i just really want some feedback! thanks so much for your time!

What school (major) did you apply too? How rigorous was/is your course load?

You have a good chance of getting in!!

I don’t think “homecoming queen” has anything to do with it, but if you want to list it, go ahead :P

And yeah, it really depends on which school you applied to. Engineering (and maybe business) would probably be a stretch, but you should be reasonably okay for the other schools.

i applied to liberal arts first choice government and second choice sociology ha and yeah i didnt know if homecoming queen would help but i mean it doesnt hurt ha i just thought id put anything and everything and yeah junior year i took ap bio, ap language, and ap us history. this year i have ap english lit., and ap gov. all the other classes are honors

Soad…are you from Texas? In the land of football, I hate to tell you, being homecoming queen probably holds a little weight…just say’n.

I’m not from Texas, but I work with the admissions office. I’m trying to be a little serious, haha!

ha well regardless of the homecoming thing… do i have a decent chance at liberal arts?

Liberal Arts is very easy to get into. Especially if you didn’t apply to honors. I’m go to a Texas public school district (1 of the top 3 school districts in Texas) that probably gets more kids into Austin than any other school. I think you have a good chance; are you familiar with the top 10% rule? (it’s actually top 8%) basically, if you go to any texas pubic high school and you’re in the top 8% then you automatically get admitted into austin. no questions asked - only way you can get rejected if you’re in top 8% is if you don’t send in something or you go on academic probation or something. These top 8% kids basically make up 75% of the school population. You also have to compete with instate kids who are not in the top 8% who are from competitve high schools like my own, for example, to be in the top 8% of my high school you need to have at least a 4.1 or close to it.

Good luck! I hear they lower standards slightly for out of state students.

Yeah you’re only competing with out of state people, they actaully set aside 10% of spots for out of state acceptances. :)

I applied honors but that cant hurt right? and really stitch? i heard it was really hard to get in as out of state?

@mm: honors is a separate determination from admissions. Can’t hurt.

soadquake981: do you know when honors rejections are mailed?

will be sent to you after you find out whether or not you’ve been admitted to the college itself. For instance if you applied for Liberal Arts Department of Government as your first choice major then you should receive your admittance to the college first. Then after that you’ll receive your admissions/rejection letter to the Honors portion. You can hear from them as late as May, just all depends on their applications.

I know all of this only because I’ve asked my admissions counselor a ton of questions about this too cause I’m in the same boat, only since I’m a texas resident I have already been admitted the Liberal Arts College just not honors yet. Good Luck to you in getting in!:)

They don’t lower the standards for oos students. Its harder for oos students to get in cause so much is guaranteed to instate kids

@ohmygosh yeah thats what I had been reading too. At the admissions seminar they told us that the average GPA and SAT were both higher for out of state students.

Hey I’m an out of state student too! Does anyone know when we find out if we’re accepted or not? Because UT Austin is def one of my top choices as well, and I’m dying to know.

My OOS son found out February 27 last year, but it might be different this year.
