Hi
I was recently admitted OOS to UT Austin’s Plan II Honors. I was very grateful because the program seemed like a great fit. However, I also applied ED2 to Vanderbilt, and am waiting to hear back in about two weeks. I am wondering if I should withdraw my ED2 application to Vandy. If anyone can help, I’d love to hear some comparisons between the two schools. I did apply to some schools regular (Ivy-plus tier, but I’m not expecting much).
I’m from the Northeast, but I’m not sure what sector I want to go into. I am currently planning to double major in philosophy and either computer science or mathematics if I attend Vandy, and Plan II with compsci or math at UT. These studies are what I’m interested in right now, and hopefully, they’ll keep my options flexible for the future.
Congratulations! Both great options. CS at UT is crazy difficult to get into. Have you been accepted? If not, it’s highly unlikely to be able to add CS as a second major. Plan ii very well-regarded and you can go into many different fields from there. Have you visited both campuses? That could help you in your decision.
Thank you for your response. I haven’t been admitted to CS. I was however, admitted to the college of natural sciences. I didn’t realize it was so hard to transfer into that major. That definitely is helpful information.
And I don’t know about a dual major in Vandy, but plan II with a second major can be completed in 4 years for every major except one. I don’t remember exactly, maybe architecture?
Austin vs Nashville is an interesting discussion but when it comes to tech, Austin seems to attract more of the biggest and best tech companies.
Nashville on the other hand offers more opportunity with respect to the entertainment/content creation industry as well as healthcare, insurance and finance.
Both cities are state capitals so the political opportunities are probably the same.
