UT Liberal Arts College Transfer Fall 2010 - Chance Me Please!

I am currently a student at Houston Community College

Basically I have decided to transfer into the Liberal Arts college as an Anthropology major for the Fall of 2010 for a few reasons.

1) I've taken many Liberal Arts-related classes
2) I heard it's the easiest school to transfer into
3) I can transfer to another college internally after I finalize my major

After checking out my latest transcript, my GPA is actually a 3.2 and I have 15 cred hours

The courses I have taken are:
GOVT 2301 - Amer Gov Nat/Sta/Local I
ECON 2301 - Macroeconomics
ANTH 2351 - Cultural Anthropology
PSYC 2301 - Intro to Psychology
ENGL 1301 - Composition I

^ These courses gave me a 3.2 GPA ^

The courses I am currently taking are:
MATH 1314 - College Algebra
ENVR 1301 - Environmental Science
GOVT 2304 - Intro to PoliSci
HIST 1301 - U.S. History to 1877
GOVT 2302 - Amer Gov Nat/Sta/Local II

My expected GPA is a 3.4 - 3.5, but if something goes wrong, I will have a 3.3 and 30 cred hours

I have printed out a Recommended Courses For Transfer guide for the Liberal Arts college and so far I will have knocked at least one for each discipline apart from Foreign Language and Math (because 1314 counts as an elective).

My intended schedule for next semester is:

ENGL 1302 - Composition II
ASTR 1403 w/ lab
ASTR 1404 w/ lab
MATH 1324 - Finite Math

I will be testing out of Spanish for 12 credits in January.

I plan on getting a few letters of recs from my Anthropology prof. and maybe a Govt prof.

My extracurriculars include Officer of Houston All-City Orchestra since 2001, Mission work in Mexico in the summer of '06, various community services at churches, schools, day cares, homeless shelters, and hospitals, Rice University summer anatomy program, Texas Children's Hospital Health Adventures.

My job experience includes my current job at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and some cafe and ice cream shop jobs, as well as an internship at Washington Mutual Bank.

The deadline for Fall 2010 is March 1st, and I still gotta write the essays, compile a resume, and do all the other dirty work.

My boyfriend thinks that I should be set, but I'm just worried about my chances because I've never gone through the process of writing an admissions essay...

What do you think? I'm pretty freaked out about applying!
aridnepenthe is online now

I’m in the same position as you! :D

Have you already submitted your app?!

I’m working on my resume right now and I’m super nervous because I only have a 3.3

Why won’t you try transfering into “better” schools?

You’re on track for COLA. The recommended GPA mark is 3.2, with a 3.5 or above rumored as safe. Your ECs are good as well. Have you taken any honors courses or anything that would be considered more challenging than the typical HCC courseload? If you need any help with your essays or resume let me know (I’m a COLA transfer myself, B.S. psych, pre-med, transferred from Austin CC with a 3.6).

Orson - UT is a top 50 school, many of our majors rank in the top 15 in the nation, and for TX state residents much more affordable than what you might consider “better.”

Thanks sundoll! I am freeeeeaking out! UT is my first choice school, and I ended up with a 3.3 this semester! Pretty bummed, but I’m still applying! Could I send you my resume and Essay A? I just finished them :)

Plenty of schools “better” than UT offer terrific fa.
I’m just encouraging you to expand your boundaries. If you want to attend UT, then go for it- no harm done.

OrsonSwells, my parents are really strict and will only let my go to UT or U of Houston. I cant afford to pay for college on my own, and I already have a job waiting for me in Austin.

I would love to go to school in Colorado or Cali or something, but that isn’t an option for me. Maybe for my Master’s!
