My daughter has been admitted to UTD with an AES Honors Scholarship. Since she is now a NM Finalist she will essentially have a free ride at UTD. We are debating between UTD and Honors College programs in either U of Oregon or Oregon State. The 2 Oregon schools are not as generous as UTD but are quite affordable since we are in-state. She says she is interested in Chemistry/ Materials Science. Her decision will come down to grad school placement differences between UTD and the Oregon schools. Do UTD UG's get into top law/ medical/ grad schools? UTD directed me to http://www.utdallas.edu/career/statistics/ and I found quite a bit of information there (incidentally, I asked the same info from U of O and OSU and they haven't gotten back to me yet, which may be telling...). But I am seeking information, anecdotal or otherwise, from CC'ers. Thanks.

I dont know much about the Oregon schools except that U of Oregon has some pretty sweet football jerseys.

I think chem and materials science are two strengths of utd. A few of my friends have worked in chem research labs and gotten publications. the materials science faculty publish a lot as well.

As for law/med/grad school placement, it is all on the student. Do well at UTD, and no doors are closed. I know plenty of people from utd at top grad schools in their fields: harvard, stanford, uva, duke, uchicago, northwestern, yale, umich, list goes on.

Thanks, BRD. Thanks for staying engaged in this forum. We are planning on visiting mid-April…
