@goodwork18 I doubt that such a reference would make any difference … good luck!
Feedback from guidance counselors at my school is that very few of the thousands of kids on the waitlist will be coming off…
@ArmyDad1988 , can you shed a little more light on this statement? Seems filled with doom, which might be accurate but you’re not giving us much to go on! All good intel welcome. Thanks!
Sorry just feedback from counselors at a HS that has sent a lot of kids there. Describe regular way insights from admissions re: wait list as ‘vague’ and this year they got a decidedly bearish tone in terms of likely acceptances off the Waiting List. Intimated that it was absolutely numbers, as if yield is going to be more spot on to projections, and so they will need fewer bodies off the list. This is just one data point. May or may not pan out this way…
has anyone heard of anyone getting in off the waitlist
@aaaaabbcc no I think it will take until like mid may maybe
Twitter post little to no movement expected off waitlist
Yes, my son’s counselor sent me that tweet re: little to no movement off the waitlist so we are not optimistic. Guess my NoVA boy will be going out to the Barrett Honors College and Fulton Engineering School at Arizona State University. Very proud of him though…accepted at JMU, GMU, VT, UMD, OSU, WVU, USC, Penn State, Purdue and received top merit scholarships at all of the out of state schools. Accepted to 9/10 schools he applied and only waitlisted at UVA. I’m disappointed since I’m a UVA alum and we’ve loved UVA forever…
… good luck to everyone wherever they end up!!
class registration is during orientation and they are good about holding spots for each registration period. Not sure about housing. From what I remember they didn’t release the first round of housing until the last week of June and it is totally random, so my guess is as long as you meet the deadlines you will be part of the random group.
@LUVSML I am sorry to hear that for your son, especially being a legacy. It is so competitive. I looked back to see what you had written about his stats, ECs, etc - although I know that stats are only one piece. You had mentioned 4.0 - was that weighted? or unweighted. Also, any reflection on what might have helped him get into UVA in hindsight. Remember, he will thrive wherever he goes!!!
Aw, shucks. Guess I am just going to say no to my waitlist since there’s no movement. I am excited to attend USC this fall, though! (amid the costs).
@LvMyKids2 - Yes, definitely disappointing about UVA and even though it will be a great opportunity for our son to live in Arizona, I’m having a really hard time with the distance. As a taxpayer and UVA alum, it really bothers me that some of the best and brightest in-state kids can’t get into Virginia’s top university. His 4.0 GPA was weighted and included 11 AP classes. He made a C+ in Algebra 2 Honors in 9th grade (missed a B- by 1/10th of a point) He had a 1510 super-scored SAT and a 34 ACT. He also attended American Legions Virginia Boys State (which I’ve heard UVA looks highly upon.) He is a well rounded kid involved in a lot of activities and I think he did a good job on his application and essays. At the end of the day, I’m guessing his GPA wasn’t high enough and he didn’t have enough A grades despite the challenging curriculum. He also did not want to take foreign language classes beyond three years.
@LUVSml I am going to direct message you. Thank you
@LUVSml I feel your pain. I feel the exact same way about our California public universities. We pay so much in taxes and it’s so so hard for our instate kids to get into our great schools. So many of the kids end up going out of state and paying more than double.
Wait what do you mean there is no movement?
@Betudo I posted updates on Twitter and Instagram. I’m UVADeanJ on both if you aren’t aware.
Does your tweet mean that there will be little movement or no movement at all? It doesn’t explicitly say. Thanks! @“Dean J”
For all the students out there still waiting - take a step back and embrace whatever choice you have made. My son was in the same situation 2 years ago with another school. He never did get called off the waiting list. Consequently he never fully embraced his second choice. He has since transferred and is now happy and BTW not at his original choice. There are no bad options. Embrace your current choice and if you do get called from UVA then it will be a nice surprise. Life is full of twists and turns and this is just a bump in the road and a part of your journey. Good luck to all of you.
Just curious I wonder if the Dean reads any waitlist letters even though the class is complete? Is it worth the effort? Is the admissions office busy with the letters? Thanks.
