UVa Countdown

Those guys that did not get in, keep your chin up and work hard. You will be happy at whichever place you go to. If you were waitlisted my suggestion would be to find an excuse to meet with the dean of your particular school, dress to impress and talk your way into the school. My good friend from JMU got himself into McIntire this way a few years back, so it could not hurt. good luck to all!

Those that are going to UVA, we should definitely keep in touch. I am going to start a new thread with our contact info im, email.

Hey you guys, yeah I am trying to keep my head, kinda hard, kinda sucks. Especially considering I haven't heard from Virginia Tech yet. I actually called today before I heard from UVa, and Tech said that they still have not made a decision....whatever that means, whether it's good or bad....I am just praying.

hey transfers,
I just got accepted to UVA and was looking at housing for next year but they do not put transfers with each other and stick transfers in any random place. I was wondering if any other transfer girls (I think I need 5 others) want to put our names together and take the place of 6 girls who want to leave their oncampus apartment and live offcamous (my friend that goes to uva knows ppl who have done this). My name is Jessica Farace and I am going to be a second year next year. I am transfering from Tufts University in Boston and I'm really excited about uva! Please email me at jessica.farace@tufts.edu or im me at Star21LFO.

Are you sure about that? I think they actually have a transfer dorm I can't remember what it is called, but it is the one that looks like a jail.
Well too bad I am not a girl.

Yeah...unfortunately. I just called housing and they put us witht he same lottery as all upper classmen

I wonder what kind of upper classmen live in dorms...

... i always start trouble =)

OK ppl....you really really really don't want to live in UVa dorms lol......they're insanely overpriced....you pay less staying right next to campus (say on JPA or Stadium Dr.) than you do for staying in a dorm!

farhansfa, that isn't true at all...on grounds upperclass housing is around 3200-3400...that includes garbage, electricity, heat/air, water, and internet. Off grounds is going to cost you AT LEAST $325 mo (for 12 mo) PLUS garbage, electricity, heat/air, water, and internet.

Garbage, heat, and water are amentities almost always included in off grounds rental agreements. Internet is also common, but not guaranteed. Electricity is what will rack up the cost, especially during those hot summer days.

has anybody tried to get started on the housing yet? I cannot activate the uva id, the one with your initials

I tried, but it did not work. I thought that maybe there is no access to that until you pay your enrollment deposit.

I paid my deposit and it keeps giving me errors when I try and get mine...a friend is calling to ask today.

What I meant to say is maybe you have to wait until they process your deposit. Anyway, does anyone understand the process for transfer housing assignment? Without accessing the application, it is difficult to understand how they are exactly going to do this. I would really want to know more about their transfer housing assignment because on their website it claims that they can usually accomodate all transfer housing applicants. Does anyone know of the accuracy of this statement?

i think that is accurate, however, i hear that sometimes you do not know where you'll live or if you'll have to look for off grounds housing until just a few weeks before the semester starts... i really hope that won't be the case with any of us.

i might look into just getting a place off campus

Would it be cheaper to live off-campus? I haven't really done any research, but I didn't really consider living off-campus. I hope I am not informed at that last minute that no space is available. I suppose I have to hope for the best. Good luck with off-campus housing.

so cc student, are you going to UVA or are you still debating it?

3,400/ month divided by 9 months (august til may) = 377.78 a month

1 3 bedroom Apt. 1000 a month between 3 ppl = 333.33 + 40 a month divided by 3 ppl = 346.66 a month + 20 dollars electricity (guessing price...i doubt it'll be 60 a month for the entire bill unless you're growing pot in your room)....366.66 a month....bring your own furniture and stuff....they're about the same...cept apartments give you more living space...and the ones I'm looking at provide washer/dryer...and...you get a patio :)

Also...no paying for a parking tag offgrounds if you live on JPA or Stadium

Yes. I think so. There is a small chance that I will not go, but I am fairly sure that I will. I am doing planning for UVa, and basically, configuring everything so that my transition from California to UVa will run smoothly.

one thing to remember though nahrafsfa is that most off grounds leases are 12 mo. not 9 so 366.66 mo ends up being $4400 for the year and it is pretty difficult to sublease an apartament during the summer. but you do make a good point about not having to pay for parking

is a three bedroom apartment really a 1000 or is it in 1200-1500 range? I am used to DC prices a studio in my building is 1200-1500 lol...

Also I am sure the electricity will run more than that but when you split it three ways it is not a problem I think total a mean of a total would be 130 with a standard deviation of 18... ok i got to go study my stat.

but overall i would not mind the apartment with some cool people even if it'll cost me more
