I was wondering if anyone who has an undergraduate degree from university of Virginia in any engineering discipline can offer his or her experiences finding jobs, maintain a top GPA (or improving GPA), networking, and just other opportunities in general. Also, tips for being successful in engineering is appreciated.

Hi. My son graduated in 2007 from UVa SEAS in systems engineering. He was heavily recruited in the Washington area (12 interviews and four offers when he finally turned it off). He had an average GPA and internships after his second and third years. He went to work for a large defense contractor, and got recruited away after nine months to a consulting firm. He works in modeling and simulation for that company (actually, on site for a government customer). His career prospects appear to be very bright.

He has started on his masters in systems engineering and operations research at George Mason University (part time). His company pays for the tuition. Eventually he wants to get a PhD -- probably part time at GMU as well.

Thanks for the reply redbeard. It seems like Systems is the way to go to get offers. I am thinking of computer science but systems people seem to have the most success.

i know of a successful mechanical engineer, out of UVA for 3 years. having a great deal of success in the area of design and biomedical mechanics.
