I still think you’re all hiding behind “these guys are monsters” to blatantly disrespect and give a prejudice against a certain school and its graduates. I personally think the “victim” of the Duke case was looking for attention, but I can’t say that out loud because people scream discrimination. Yet, what are people doing now saying all Landon “breeds an entitled, above the law type student”, especially the lacrosse players. Double standards much?

Also, rape was never proved, it’s why the charges got dropped. Everyone can assume they were guilty, fine, but if this were against poorer minorities not on a D-1 successful team, they would have dropped the case awhile back. Those guys were used and the trial was manipulated to make them seem guilty. Go back and read the facts.

As for helping the students, there’s no way to help unless people ask for it, and people are generally scared of doing so. It will be interesting to see how universities, not just UVA, react to this. There’s a ton of info on dating violence, depression, suicide, and binge drinking, but obviously it’s not working. I feel like the school puts too much reliance on 18-22 year olds to know right and wrong in these situations and turns its back on the students. Then again, most people I know understand murder is wrong. I’m with vistany…there really isn’t a concrete solution to this

Yup, every single one of them. Even the two I know who are top-notch students, never gotten busted for a booze charge, and going on to law school and JP Morgan. All of them, horrendous. Open your eyes and stop discriminating. The world is a cruel, stereotyped place because of people like you.

Barrons…you must read “Until Proven Innocent” about the Duke lacrosse case. Those boys were innocent of the alleged “rape” but the integrity of the police, Duke administration and the efficacy of reporters remains in question. Hopefully, this case will be handled differently. We should not presume guilt before we know the facts (and hope the media is doing their job in revealing all of the facts!)

It would be helpful if current UVA students could contribute to the thread over on the Parent Cafe. There are questions about the UVA discipline policy for alcohol offenses, particularly on sports teams, and maybe some students (even better, student athletes) could answer them for us. The lax team had a number of alcohol-related convictions, yet it appears that the students stayed on the team.

On top of dealing with this horrible tragedy and the intrusion of the media, these students are starting their final exams today.

Let’s give them some space and time to decide if they want to participate in that thread. I have personally found some of the speculation and conjecture there upsetting.

I know they (Dukies) were innocent of the rape. They were not innocent of acting in boorish, sexist and generally immature nasty ways. This is not against the law generally but gives me a pretty low opinion of the guys. Also such actions can often portend worse behavior in other circumstances. And yes, the girl was no saint. But you know the old saying–lie down with dogs–don’t be surprised if you come up with fleas.

I’ve seen UVa boys do worse. I saw one yelling, threatening punches at another girl (I think girlfriend, or ex at this point) coming down the street. Someone in the other building had already called the cops by the time I saw it. There’s always punches being thrown, guys yelling at girl, guys getting in fights. Oh the joys of living behind the Corner.

Thanks powder, we should play that over loud speakers on grounds. I noticed it was recorded on March 11 of this year, I expected it to be May 3,2010.

Moving forward THOSE WORDS are the best tribute we can pay to Yeardley.

Sucks for the people that are just trying to have fun and get arrested at Foxfields or something. I wish UVA will take a case-by-case basis on this approach. Being stupid and crossing the train tracks at 2am on a birthday and getting a drunk in public and underage possession should not lead to kicking someone out (yes, I know someone that this happened too. She was on dean list and everything, and they came really close to kicking her out for a semester, simply because it was in Cville). Threatening a cop and being arrested after an incident years before of jumping off a boat and being arrested then, that should examined more closely.

I find it hilarious he claims he didn’t remember he was tasered. C’mon man…

Also, media presence seems to still be around Cville. Some girl went apecrap on reporters today after they asked her for an opinion on the streets today. She basically told them it was the middle of finals, there is already a lot of stress and people are trying to move on, and to get the heck out of dodge because there’s nothing more to say on the issue right now. A bunch of students (including me) clapped.

How wasted do you have to be to forget being tasered? That is a skill that George will do well to use in prison. Felons have their own code and people who kill girls are pretty low on the food chain. Only child molesters and rapists are lower. So, IMO George needs to practice blacking out cuz he is gonna need it.
