This new press release was posted by another person at the end of a long thread, and I thought it deserved its own thread.

Excerpt:

"This year, early applicants made up approximately 41 percent of the total applicant pool, and will receive about 41 percent of the total admissions offers, he said.

Of those early applicants who will not receive admissions offers on Friday, 3,150 had their applications deferred to the regular application cycle. "They're all strong candidates for admission," Roberts said. "We want to see their mid-year grades and how they fare when compared to the regular application pool."

Very interesting article. It makes me wonder what UVa’s overall acceptance rate for IS and OOS will be after everything has been tallied in March. An 18% increase overall will obviously drop the current acceptance rate. I know the OOS rate this year was 26%, and I believe 24% in 2010. Will it go down to 20%? What about the IS rate? Hmmm…

“I know the OOS rate this year was 26%”

how do you know?

“This year” meaning the class of 2015, not the incoming class of 2016. You can look on the blog.

Last year, the number of applicants increased, but the number of 1st year students also increased, so it came out to about the same acceptance rate. The U is planning a gradual increase in the first year class each year for the next few years to meet goals of the Governor, particularly to increase science and engineering grads.

UVa’s no. of applications this year were only about 500 less than Yale.
