I'm undecided between Virginia, Florida and North Carolina. I'm considering a major in a social science like Psychology or Economics. I'm in state in Florida so I would be paying OOS tuition at UVA and UNC. I got into Echols at UVA, but was not admitted to the honors program at either UNC or UVA. I don't really like the campus at UF but love the campuses of UVA and UNC. Where do you think I should go?

Echols is the “honors” program at UVA. You should definitely google UVA Echols program and find out what the perks are. If finances are not an issue, I think the Echols program makes UVa the best choice, but lots will disagree.

By any chance are you in Echols?

Nope, e-schooler

what kind of school are you looking for? UF is very different from UNC and UVA. I too live in Florida and had UF as an option, but I decided it wasn’t the right type of school for me—too big. I’m echols too, and also did not get into the honors program at UNC. I ended up choosing UVA…I went up to their accepted students day last week and realized it was the right place…perfect combination of academics and social life. Think about what you’re looking for in a school…if you have any questions about echols let me know (after visiting columbia right after UVA, I instantly knew echols would be amazing. at columbia, all students are required to take the core curriculum, which takes up of at least 1/3 of all of your classes, whereas echols means we can take whatever classes we please…pretty sweet I think)

The size of Florida is definitely a negative. I think UVA is the perfect size. The ability to skip gen ed classes is definitely a something that makes UVA stand out on my list. I also went to the Echols days on the lawn program and I loved the campus and the UVA students, but i didn’t get a great vibe from my teacher in the model class or the kids that were visiting. That probably wasn’t a great representation of the school though. I’m definitely leaning towards UVA though, because of the Echols program, the only qualm I have is paying OOS tuition instead of going to UF for free or UNC for significantly cheaper. I can afford it, but thats still a consideration. Thanks for your help!
