UVA vs GT vs Emory Vs CMU Vs UNC

I have been accepted to all these schools, just trying to decide which would be best, My goal after graduation is to attend medical school. For BS I am looking to major in BioMed Engineering (UVa, GT, CMU) or in NeuroScience/applied math.(Emory or UNC)

GT is top for BME, but I have read or heard that to maintain a GPA > 3.6 is tough at GT and may hurt my chances when applying to med school, also I am OOS for all schools (GT, UVa, UNC CH).

I like UVa as it has a decent BME program and a great Business school as well (just in case I change my mind pursuing medicine or opt for a double major, but is also most expensive for OOS. What are the chances if I ask UVa to give me some sort of scholarship or OOS tuition waiver to match other schools offers (such as cooper union where I have been accepted too). How would you compare BME at UVa to GT?

or Emory which does not have a BME program but has a strong premed and sciences program.

In general asking for any kind of reduction in tuition fees does it work or does it work against you.

any help/advise would be great. Pretty confused right now.

Also I would be graduating along with my High School Diploma a Associate Degree with 60 college credits, would any of these schools transfer my credits, as i applied as a freshmen instead of transfer student.

GATech is not a top school if your goal is med school since grade deflation is drastic. I’d cross it out.
If UVA doesn’t come up with sufficient scholarships and it seems you’d know by now or will soon), cross it out: as a premed student, you should minimize expenses. It is however a better choice than GATech regardless of whether you succeed as a premed or not, because grades are on-par with universities this caliber and both BME and McIntyre enjoy great reputations. Only worry, BME is hard to get a 3.6 in (a 2.9/3.0 engineering GPA isn’t bad but nowhere near the 3.6+ you need for med school). On the other hand, if you can find a major where you get A’s consistently + can get high marks in your premed core classes, you’ll be well-served by a UVA degree.
Finally, Emory: do you have a scholarship? Is it within budget? I’d say it’s your best bet if it’s affordable.

Since you’re still in HS, it’s normal you applied as a freshman. Then you’d get “advanced standing” upon admission; not all credits would transfer toward specific university credits, but you’d probably transfer a lot of them, either as electives or as gen eds. Note that the more selective the university, the least likely it is to grant many credits. In addition, it’s HIGHLY recommended you “retake” the last course in a sequence. For instance, let’s imagine you took Calc 1 and 2, Bio 101 and 102, and Chem 101 and 102 at a community college; you should only request credit for Calc1, Bio 101, and Chem 101, because most premeds in the class will have taken it already. You don’t want to skip - you want to guarantee yourself a good grade AND get used to college methodology, so you “retake” Calc 2, Bio 102, and Chem 102. If you took Calc AB, you take Calc 1 in college and don’t ask for the credit. This way you can frontload your GPA and stack up the good grades as a cushion for the really hard classes like orgo, which is deadly.

thanks for the very insightful advice. I am not 100% on doing engg, but was considering BMe just in case I change my mind later on doing med school. but I get your point, Emory is a great school but why do you say it is my best bet, also it is within budget.

UVA didn’t seem like it was within budget as “is”, since you’re waiting to hear on scholarships. Emory and UVA are similar in vibe and “fit”, and Emory sounds affordable. Hence the “best bet”.

MYOS1634 what do you think about UNC?
