UVA vs. Hampden-Sydney?

  1. Are Hampden-Sydney(Honors Program) and UVA in the same league academically? I know UVA's average freshmen stats are a bit higher, but that's probably because it's co-ed and HSC is all-male. I have a feeling that if you compared the stats of the men at UVA, and the men of HSC's Honors Program , they would be quite similar.
  2. I am looking for a PREPPY, conservative college wit a strong Political Science program, and an enviorment like a private Country Club. Which school would fit me more?

Hampden-Sydney. Also: http://www.collegeguide.org/itemdetail.aspx?item=038ce0a6-75ae-4e86-a145-71dbf4768101

If this post is for real, and you really want a “private country club environment,” I’m not going to try to talk you out of Hampden-Sydney.

LOL

I cal troll

I am for REAL. If you look at my other posts, a school with an “environment like a private country club” is exactly what I want. Why are people so offended by that? Why not just answer my question?

I’ve never heard of that college, why do you like it?

Gandalf: I don’t have first hand knowledge about Hampden-Sydney. I think most people in your position would choose UVa. However, if you have spent sufficient time at each college, and you feel much more comfortable at H-S, that is fine.

I believe most would rate Virginia’s Poly Sci programs higher than HSC’s. But, HSC clearly fits the bill for your preppy country club environment. Obviously, there will a significant price differential between the private HSC and the public UVa. Tuition at HSC is about $38K.

OP: I read some of your other posts. Are you really going to homeschool yourself for your last years of high school???

I’ve really thought about it, because current school isn’t great. I’ll probably just use Veritas Press Scholars Academy though.

After reading your posts and investigating the men’s college, I recommend you attend it. The only fear I have is that unless you fit into the small class and find your place, you might be just as unhappy as you are at the Catholic school. At that point, if that happens, you can transfer to UVA or elsewhere. Best of luck.

If you are young and intending to apply next year, apply to both schools (among others) and keep your options open. The aspects that are important now may be less important as your interests evolve.

In any case, if you living outside of Va., a UVa name on your resume will open up more doors than a Randy Mac diploma. I can’t comment on the quality of a Randy Mac education, but I’ll bet few people have heard of the place outside of Va.

I’ve never heard of it either, BUT he’s a high school sophomore and based on his other posts, I believe he’ll be unhappy at a much larger college. He sounds like he wants to become more sophisticated and that men’s college in particular prides itself on providing a finishing school education. Some young men need that to become more self confident to succeed. I think as long as he finds a group of friends there, he will thrive and achieve great things.

Do you guys think Wofford would fit me?

If you’ll have the grades and scores to get into UVa, and want a preppy conservative environment, you might look at Washington and Lee. W&L has more of a reputation outside of Va. than Randy Mac.

If you want a country club atmosphere you need to check out High Point Univ. - complete with guarded gates, it’s own steak house, and plenty of nice swimming pools.
