UW Madison Internet Monitoring

I like to download my music off torrents and bittorrent. Does the university monitor internet activity? like will i get in trouble if im downloading music?

Don’t download music or movies using the dorm’s internet for sure, and I wouldn’t try it with the general internet (the one you’d find in class buildings).

A friend of a friend of mine lost his internet privileges by downloading music - he couldn’t use the internet in the dorms at all and I don’t know about the general network. I really wouldn’t risk it, head to somewhere off-campus with free Wi-Fi and download your stuff there. Or even better, make a friend who lives off-campus and use their internet.

Agree with Roxsox…UW is monitoring and will sanction offenders. This came up quite a bit last fall:

Not worth it. Losing campus internet privileges would pretty significantly hinder your ability to do what you need to do academically.

Better yet, pay for what you use. Stealing music hurts artists.
