Minnesota=Wisconsin>Illinois (In everything)

^^^Wrong. Wisky>UIUC>Minnie…

^^^ Wrong. Michigan>UIUC=Wisconsin=Minnesota (overall Minnesota is just a bit lower than UIUC and Wisky).

Wisconsin and UIUC are both premier institutions and at a point where you are accepted at both the universities, put aside the rankings and go with the “best fit”. I would personally pick Wisconsin over UIUC (even though I am an engineering major) as Wisconsin is more lively and the there was so much to do in the campus.

Again, It is a matter of personal choice and all these people can give you is rankings. Tell us more about your personality and maybe then a we can guide you towards your “best fit”.

^^^Well of course I do agree with Michigan over the other three, but not in ChemE!

I believe that it was true in the 1980s, not anymore. During that time, some of the Chinese visiting scholars really screw up in ChemE and Computer science departments, and no graduate students from Mainland China enrolled in those two departments. I think that everything has changed since then.

I got accepted into both but I have not made a decision yet. I am instate for Illinois and I always had my heart set on Illinois… until I went to Wisconsin for Halloween. Phenomenal campus and it just felt right. I’ve been to Illinois three times and it just seems dirty and boring. I will be paying in-state tuition for U of I which is the biggest advantage. I cannot make a decision, can someone help me decide?

I can’t tell you you will get much of a different education at either one. I do think UW wins on non-academic factors. It’s too bad Illinois and Wisconsin can’t have a reciprocity deal like Wis and Minny.

fightingIllini – you say “I” will be paying in-state tuition… you mean your parents, right?

If going to Wisconsin means “I” will have to pay another $80,000, then this is really a decision “I” have to think carefully about … if this means that “I” will need to borrow against the house, or borrowing from “I”'s retirement, caveat emptor…

OTOH you only have one shot at the best four years of your life. I think the cost gap is closer to $50,000.

Well Wisconsin likely have the bigger party, drinking scene etc… though Illinois does have a large greek life so I’m sure you can find the scene at either school. Both are known to be peers in academics along with Michigan.
