UW-Seattle or UCLA or UT-Austin for computer science

Recently I was accepted to UW-Seattle, UCLA, and UT-Austin as computer science major. I just need second opinions before I make my final decision. I know that UW-Seattle computer science considers as one of the elite in the States, but to enter the UW's computer science department is extremely hard. On the other hand, I heard that UCLA and UT-Austin also have high quality computer science program. Which one should I choose? Thank you.

If I may, I’m thinking cost and/or location as they are all very good in CS.

If cost is important, and if you’re a resident of one of these states, think locally not nationally.

If cost isn’t important – if you’re one of these rich Int’l types and your parents have put aside unlimited educational funds for you, ;), then think wherever does it for you geographically.

You don’t provide us with enough info to otherwise help you make a more definitive choice. And besides, many of us would rather not flat-out state choices for you anyway.

of course money always the problems. Actually I also received admission from MIT and UCB, but I can’t afford them. I’m an international student, so I have to pay international rates T.T

You can afford UCLA but not Berkeley? Did you get help for UCLA or do you have relatives in So Cal? I can understand why UDub and UT-Austin would be somewhat cheaper for an Int’l like yourself, but both UCLA and Berk are $55K/year full cost without any help.

Were you directly admitted to Washington CS? Or will you have to apply to get into the CS major (reportedly very difficult to get admitted to)?

@drax 12seriously? 55k? as long as i remembered my friend told me to expect somewhere up to 70k/year for ucb (yes they state 54.5k on their site, but in reality it doesn’t). + they offer me 10k scholarship for UCLA. so it’ll be down to 45k+/-10%. The cost of attending UW and UT also somewhere around 40-43k/year.

@ucbalumnus I was admitted to Washington general, which means I have to apply to their cs department

Try the Washington forum and ask how difficult it is to get into the CS major.

Unless, Cal is charging a premium for their CS and engineering students. That would be outrageous if they’re doing this.

There is currently no tuition difference for engineering or CS majors at Berkeley, although there are colleges that charge different levels of tuition by major.

I have never heard of Berkeley costing $15,000 per year more than its financial aid office’s cost of attendance. If that is a concern, you should ask on the Berkeley forum. Perhaps the extra cost includes travel costs for international students, although that is a lot of airplane tickets.

okay then. thx a lot guys.

UCB and UCLA should be the same price.

Getting admitted to UW’s CS department is very difficult and not guaranteed, so I would go with one of the ones were you were directly admitted.
