UW vs Purdue Comp Sci

I am deciding between UW and Purdue for a computer science or another related major. I was accepted to UW as pre arts and sciences and Purdue into Computer Engineering. I know getting into comp sci at UW is difficult as pre major, but im not completely set on comp sci and am also interested in majors like industrial design or business.

I like the location and campus of UW more than purdue but am unsure if I will be able to get a good major there. I am sure I can get the classes I need at Purdue but I’m not sure how the quality of the programs compare. I was also accepted to uc santa cruz and SJSU but am mainly deciding between UW and purdue.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

My gpa weighted was 4.3 and uw was 3.7 sat is 1520 and math II is 790 if that makes any difference

If cost isn’t a factor, my vote is Purdue.

UW is Washington? I think PU also has a GPA requirement for a major, right?

A technical degree is employable regardless of which college you go to. You’d be wasting your money paying triple the cost going out of state, especially for computer science. Unless you have a scholarship, I would stay in-state.

Yep, especially with the in-state options you have. If you got in to CS for SJSU and you are in-state for CA, I’d actually take that. SJSU is a bigger feeder in to Silicon Valley than PU and more certain (assuming you got in to CS there) than UW.

Both UW and Purdue have very competitive CS major application processes. If that’s even a 50% chance you want to do CS, I’d eliminate both as options. What majors did you get into for UCSC and SJSU?

my preferred major is either comp sci or computer engineering cost isn’t that big of a factor

What majors were you admitted to at UCSC and SJSU though?

I was admitted comp sci to both

Go to UCSC or SJSU if you have direct admission to CS there. Why pay more to get weeded out at Washington or Purdue?

I was admitted to the major I chose at Purdue

If you aren’t a direct admit TO MAJOR (not just to college), you need to look at how competitive it is to get the major you want at each school. I agree with @PurpleTitan. If you were directly admitted to SJSU for CS, that’s where I’d go.

Purdue engineering students start in “first year engineering” and must apply to their desired majors after completing frosh level course work. The admission to major process is based on college GPA and is competitive.
