I have been accepted to both the University of Washington and the University of British Columbia (Canada). I understand that schools differ based on programs as well. In my case, I am planning to major in International Studies/International Relations and I want to study a lot of languages (French, Japanese, Chinese, Hindi...) What school offers a better program in this? Also, what school has a better study abroad program?

If I go to UW, I will be commuting from home (but it will be cheaper) but if I go to UBC, I will be staying in a dorm (more expensive).

Your opinions are greatly appreciated. :)

Who’s paying for it?

If yourself: Which one do you prefer? If you prefer the more expensive one, can you afford it?

If your parents: either go with the cheaper one, or ask which one they’d prefer and go with that. I think if parents are paying, they are the deciding factor.

UBC is a lot of money if your not Canadian

In terms of $, it is about 3,000 more in UBC for me (which in retrospect isn’t a GREAT difference from UW)

Not really. Not compared to a lot of private colleges in the US.

Other than $, how about the programs each university offers in terms of languages & International Studies/International Relations? What about study abroad?

O, and private college costs are justified?

I didn’t say whether private college costs are justified or not. I was just saying that if you compare a private college in the US to the cost of UBC, the cost may be less.

Yeah I got into both as well and am trying to decide, I sort of am leaning towards UBC just because I live in Seattle and would not mind a change of location. The cost is about 5 grand more per year at UBC, but this is not that much when compared to the 50,000/year privates in US… Basically some compare/contrast between the schools would be very nice.
