UW vs UIUC

Maybe I just run in different circles, but I swear I don’t see as many white people as others. My circles include many East Asian, Pinoy, Black, Jewish, African, South Asian and Hispanic people. I see Anglo-Saxons too, but I cannot say that the UW has a dearth of minorities.

I mean, I do homework pretty frequently at the Office of Minority Affairs, but I see ethnically diverse people everywhere. But more importantly, UW is a diverse place of ideas. There are people of different political, musical and clothing styles. It’s diverse in many ways not related to race.

so how’d it go @dustinthewind (you graduate this year?)

bumping this thread…

I’ve been accepted to UW and UIUC. I’m leaning towards UW because I love the outdoors and photography, and have wanted to visit the PNW region for a long time. However I think UIUC will give me more flexibility to take classes from a wider range of departments because I’m in DGS (as compared to where I am admitted to Earth and Space Sciences in UW). UIUC and the Chambana area also seems to have more artsy opportunities like community theatre etc, so I’m kinda torn. Oh yeah, and I’m international, so UW has a higher cost. Thoughts?

I currently go to UIUC and am trying to transfer to UW. I personally hate it here. The location is pretty awful, but the classes and Greek life are good. That being said, if you aren’t in Greek life there isn’t much to do, and being in a Sorority is the only thing making my time here bearable.

This is a 5 year old thread. @dustinthewind is dust in the wind from here. However after reading this, like you, I was curious and did some digging - he was another victim of the “seldom do direct admit” debacle of UW - the reason great students go elsewhere. Went to UIUC. Smart move for him. If you get in DA, it is ok option, but if not, better to go elsewhere so you don’t spend 5-6 years getting a 4 year degree, or never get in your major at all. Too risky.
