UW vs UPitt for biology/neuroscience

University of Washington or University of Pittsburgh? Which is a better place to grow as a biology student? I am planning to become a pediatric neurologist, so where can I receive the better education? I like both schools because both are big schools located in urban cities. I have visited UW but haven't visited UPitt. I also like both in the perspective that there are medical facilities nearby-including children's hospitals.

I am also waiting to hear from University of Wisconsin-Madison so any feedback concerning this school will also be greatly appreciated.

Hi pumpkins,
I don’t know specifics about UW’s neuro programs, but I have a few friends who are in the neurobiology/neuroscience programs.

They’ve told me that it’s a very strong program and most of the students (assuming they did the work) are more than ready to pursue medical school next year or in the future. Those who enter the neuroscience field are very dedicated and you’ll find a strong group of classmates at UW. If possible, I suggest trying on having one on one contact with some neuro students from both schools. You can also probably contact the departments and ask to talk to a professor about how the programs are. They’ll probably be biased towards their own school (of course), but you’ll hear from different perspectives on how the programs are run or what they offer.

Of course, I don’t know how this compares to UPitt.

Thanks anyways BubbleTeaChibi! It’s highly likely that I will be attending UW this coming fall, but I just wanted to make all the effort I can now, instead of regretting later. However, I will take your advice and try to contact the neuro students/professors of each school. Thanks again.

No problem! It sounds really cheesy to say this, but better find out information now and make a decision with as much info as possible rather than regret it later and wish to transfer. Good luck with your decision :)
