Anyone have the VPEP and have a kid go out of state instead? They say you get your money back plus a reasonable interest rate. How much more than my original 22k can I expect to get back if my D goes OOS?

I can’t speak for Virginia but here in Ohio they don’t care where you go to school. Each unit is based on the average cost of tuition at an Ohio state school and it goes up each year based on that amount. We just tell them how many units we want to pull out based on the dollar value we need and they send it to the school.

Momtotwins- lots of states are like that. Unfortunately VA is not one of them. We just get the money back plus “reasonable interest”

And reasonable interest is not very much! My son started college this year. We bought his plan for $17,800 about 10 years ago. It was worth about $21,500. It was a VPEP as well. Be very careful if you are applying for financial aid. Son’s school considered it like a grant paid by the state and reduced his institutional grant by the same amount. The school advised me to transfer it to a VEST instead so we wouldn’t lose the grant. PM me if you want more information about our experience! Good luck!
