<p>I have a nephew, very well-to-do, has every advantage known to mankind, is genuinely Ivy League material, and he has the “Hispanic card” to play, though his Hispanic parent is exceptionally well to do and is hardly from the barrio or in need of any boost up. My hard-working kids have no such advantage. I could let this eat me alive and be jealous when he inevitably gets into a better school, or I could just concentrate on my own kids and their successes. There’s a lot more life happiness doing the latter than the former. Seriously, resentment of others can eat you alive – it’s a life lesson to move away from it and just focus on what’s under your control and let the rest fall where it may.</p>
<p>To be fair, the college was named after the town named after the genocidal smallpox guy. It was the English version of lebensraum. But then they had the nerve to name the sports teams after him. If I were a college, I’d refuse to play them.</p>
<p>In my community, they tried to name a housing development after the genocidist. The Native community was up in arms.</p>
<p>"Are you sure you’re concerned about the nagging thought in the back of <em>this kid’s</em> mind … or your own mind? "</p>
<p>Well, considering I’m not shelling out money to find out if I have any traces of minority in my blood, I have no nagging thoughts. But, I do consider myself a moral person, and if I was in this student’s shoes I would definitely have nagging thoughts.</p>
<p>I want to get into a school based on my abilites: not the fact that I may or may not have 4 drops of Kazahkstani blood in my body.</p>
