The best single component of an application is URM status. Even that doesn’t guarantee admission.</p>

<p>I still don’t see the point of this thread. My son was Val and accepted ED so he had to withdraw his other apps, but I doubt he would have shared with everyone if he had been rejected by any schools. He was accepted to 4 colleges prior to being accepted ED and I don’t think went around telling anyone about those either.</p>
<p>NJMom23 - i think the purpose of this thread is so that other Vals and Sals can see that they are not alone.</p>
<p>Last year’s val from my HS was not only that, but also had the highest GPA in the school’s history. Mind you, this is a competitive school. He got rejected from HPSM, Caltech, Tufts, Duke and was only accepted at Cornell (where he now attends).</p>
<p>That same year’s Val got rejected from Stanford SCEA but is now attending Princeton. </p>
<p>This year, Val and Sal both are going to Princeton.</p>
