value of ap credits@ cornell

i'm heading towards arts& sciences (bio major),
and was just wondering:
how much time/ money do you save by getting the credits?

my ap's include
world history-5 (i don't think it counts)
us history- 5

physics- 4

calculus bc- tbd
english lit- tbd
chem-tbd
ap gov-tbd

i'm pretty sure i can wing at least 4's and even 5's in chem, gov., and calc.
but english- i called and they said that i need a 5 to get any credit, which seems
pretty hopeless.

anyways,
are there any cornellians who can share their experience w/ ap credits?
i feel like a need some serious motivation to kick myself back into studying.

I’m not a current cornellian, but I found this–>http://admissions.cornell.edu/downloads/adv_placement_intl_credentials.pdf</a><-- on their website which tells you what score places you in what class

Well my D received 15 credits for her AP’s. So figure that saves one whole semester of tuition. You do the math…

Realistically though. She won’t likely graduate early. instead she will be able to take some classes that she might not have been able to take otherwise.

i’m not concerned about graduating early; saving a semester of tuition is motivation enough.
thank you!

Well you’re only going to save a semester of tuition if you graduate early.

Even if you don’t graduate early, using AP credits can help lighten your courseload. For example, I was able to have a couple of semesters of just 12 credits and still could’ve graduated a semester early.

I came in with 26 AP credits into the college of Engineering. Calc BC, Phys C, US History, Spanish Lang, Chem, and English Lit are all going towards my graduation requirements, either allowing me to get credit for an introductory class, or fulfilling a liberal arts requirement.

I’m about to finish my freshman year, took 16 and 18 credit semesters, and will be done with all requirements a typical sophomore in my major has completed. Next year, I will affiliate with my major and complete most of my major classes. Junior year, I’ll (hopefully) be doing a co-op during fall, without having to make up those classes over summer.

Overall, I’ll be graduating 2013 with the rest of my class, but with only 7 semesters under my belt. That’s about 25k saved in costs. I also have plenty of room to double major if I so wish, or add a few minors.

you don’t really save money with AP credits unless you decide to graduate early. Instead, they give you more freedom in classes to take and can place you out of certain requirements. I came into Cornell with 29 credits, but most are going to be used for elective credits.
