^these schools can all use waitlists so they always hit their numbers, if anything they sometimes go over the numbers they planned, so not turning down a school early likely means just +1 off the waitlist
@emorynavy Why are you getting so defensive about Emory when no one said anything bad about the school? No one said anything about Atlanta either. I agree with you that everyone should visit each school. But (assuming you are not from Nashville) how would you know so much about Nashville? If you are a senior at Emory, that means you haven’t lived in Nashville as a college student. So did you feel uncomfortable in the new city only while visiting Vanderbilt? I have never lived in Atlanta before and can’t say much about the city at all. How can you say much about Nashville unless you’ve lived there? Nashville is an AMAZING city! There are so many things to do, so many friendly people, and it is a great size.
I’m a current junior at Vanderbilt. Because I am not a student at Emory, I can say absolutely NOTHING about what it means to be a student at Emory. I’m really unsure of where you get this idea that Vandy is still a good ol boys school. Although I’m not entirely sure what you meant by that, I have never felt this way and have loved my 3 years at Vandy.
Vanderbilt, in my experience, is also not cutthroat. It has been a very collaborate environment and I’ve made some really great friends from my classes and through study groups.
But, like everyone has said, Vanderbilt is not the school for everyone. Good luck to everyone who has applied RD. I remember the day I was admitted like it was yesterday!
Let us never forget Emory’s famous admissions scandal from 2012. Emory admissions leadership was misreporting data for at least 10 years according to this article, https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2012/08/20/emory-misreported-admissions-data-more-decade
?
As a parent who is just trying to get information on admissions and commiserate with other hopeful parents, I really wish the members of this forum could have just stayed on topic, which is Vanderbilt. Is there a moderator who could assist with this?
@plaine Because you never know and don’t worry, that’s what the waitlists are for. We told her to wait until she has all of her acceptances in which is the end of this week. Her #1 choice was Cal before she got into UCLA. She never thought she would get into UCLA and she did. I don’t want her to pass up any opportunities until she has everything in front of her to compare. Trust me, we have a spreadsheet going with 15 items that she needs to understand to determine which is the best school for her. My guess is on Monday she will start to decline school offers after she works on it over the weekend. She got a lot of really compelling offers so far but my gut says she will still go to UCLA because, as she said it best, “it’s UCLA”.
I was accepted ED 2 to Vanderbilt!! I know the feeling you guys are all feeling and I want you all to know everything will end up great! No matter the outcome you will all find amazing schools that are the perfect fit for you. For those of you accepted, I can not wait to have you join the family. GO COMMODORES and good luck to each and every one of you!!

It’s almost time everyone. Wishing everyone GOOD VIBES only!!
@xviiclassofxix
What are you so worried about? You already got into Emory with a “huge” scholarship and with a 4.58 GPA and a 36 on the ACT you expect rejection?
