Vanderbilt Class of 2023 EDI Discussion Thread

I’m so nervous omg

@maxh123 so I’m a mom and my son does not know the date has been moved up to tomorrow and I am not going to tell him, as i know he would be up all night stressed out. My plan tomorrow is to open my computer at 4:30 CST and tell him decisions are out and let him look while the video is on and get his reaction. I do plan to peak first and if it is bad news, I won’t tape. I figure that way he gets the best of both worlds, a memory of it if he gets in and privacy if he doesn’t. He has a big AP physics test in the morning and a huge Concert Choir tonight, so I just don’t see the point in making his stress higher, as he is already tied up in knots and knowing his destiny will be determined tomorrow will only make it worse. He’s already spinning as one of his friends got into Cornell yesterday and another got deferred for Princeton today, so he is reeling with stress.

Does anyone know if they will also send out letters? I’m wondering if a letter could be in the mail tomorrow or sometime this month.

They said that they would be sending out mail to accepted students only sometime within the week after you get the decision online. You should see online before you get a letter.

do you think vandy cares more about test scores or gpa

Email has been received my daughter just got it. They will have decisions tomorrow after 5:30

Does Vanderbilt consider biracial people URM (such as a mixed African-American/white people)? Also, is taking 5 APs in the context that a school only offers 9 good enough?

@pandatigerdino as you know, they say it is all holistic, however, based on their average GPA vs their average test scores, one can assume test scores are of higher importance (that is also the word on the street). It is clear that both matter and one can make up some for the other. They are also REALLY big on your ECs.

@mreed1 I guess it depends on the layout of the APs. At my son’s school, 6 is about the most you can take out of the 20 they offer because of all of the required courses. If someone really took every single one they could fit into their schedule, 8-9 would be 100% max (depending on when they started foreign language and what math they entered into high school in). So, I think 5 out of 9 is likely pretty good, depending on your school’s curriculum. What you got on your AP exams is also very important, as it shows if the courses are true AP or watered down (as many are today).

Just had my first cry session of many in the next 24 hours :frowning: My parents have done so much to encourage me to do my best in school throughout the years and I just want to make them proud

sooooo anxious!!!

@OliviaM2019 I am very sure your parents are proud of you OliviaM2019 regardless of what the outcome tomorrow will bring.

Olivia your parents will be proud no matter what the outcome is. I am so terrify for my daughter. Wishing you luck tomorrow.

As a teacher, parent, and mom of a Vandy EA applicant, I just want to remind all of the students here that you will have a successful life, even you don’t get into Vanderbilt. It’s an amazing school, but there are many wonderful schools out there. Your dreams will be achieved with your effort and parent support, even if tomorrow’s decision is not what you hoped. Best of luck and many happy college years.

I am so nervous!!! I kind of know that I’m going to be rejected but I applied anyways and I have a glimmer of hope :’(

For all of you that are a nervous wreck: this decision does not define you (positively or negatively) and your parents will still be proud of you and love you regardless of what the outcome is. Sometimes, getting in the game is what it is all about and you all have stretched yourselves to apply to one of the best schools in the nation, so be proud of that fact! If your desired outcome is not achieved, there will be the perfect acceptance letter eventually waiting for you. Sometimes what we think is best for us is actually not our proper path, so bear that in mind and hang onto hope that you will be accepted into the RIGHT school to make your future dreams come true. Try to get a good night’s sleep and do something fun after school tomorrow to keep your mind off of the waiting…which is certainly the worst part (for mom’s too).

Thank you lococomama let me share a story my son who is now an adult applied to a selective college back in 2001 he was heartbroken when he received the rejection letter. He ended up going to a school that was not his first choice nor a selective school. He got his degree and is now a doctor, but the best part of this story is that he met his wife at this school. If he had not been at this school he would never have met this amazing women. They are now expecting their first child.

So if you receive a rejection today know that you will still Persue the career you have chosen and be great regardless to where your degree comes from.

@maxh123 I’m opening it alone, and asking my fam to sit downstairs. I’ll videotape myself in the hopes that I’ll want to keep the video, but I definitely want to open it by myself

@jdag11 that’s exactly what I’m doing. I’m videotaping it and only saving it if it’s good!

Good luck everyone!! I applied ED1 as well and I’ve been trying to keep my mind busy since I got the email! I’m going to open my letter surrounded by family and video tape my reaction tonight

Hi everyone! I just signed into my portal and there is a new tab that is financial aid. Just want to see if everyone has that and why it appeared? good luck everyone
