After visiting Vanderbilt I was told that it is appealing to medical schools to have people apply from majors other than pre-medicine as long as you have the prerequisites for applying to medical school. What are some interesting and not too difficult majors at Vanderbilt that would allow me to enjoy my time there? I am interested in many science related things including psychology, art, and many other things.

I don’t think there is a “pre-med” major at Vandy. Most schools do NOT have a “pre-med” major.

Students major in whatever they want, but also include the required courses for med school from the following areas…Bio, Chem, Organic Chem, Physics, Cal.

So, I don’t know what that person meant. Maybe he meant that you don’t need to major in Biology (which many pre-med majors choose).

Possible majors…Chemical Engineering, Chem, Bio-Chem, Math, Psychology, Physics, or even a liberal arts major…like English, HIstory, or whatever.

My nephew is pre-med at Vandy…he’s a ChemE major. My son is a pre-med major at another school…he’s a ChemE major with a bio minor.

So, it’s whatever you like…as long as you also complete those med school reqs.

Many students interested in med school major in Medicine, Health, and Society at Vandy.

Mom2collegekids is right. There is no pre-med major at Vandy. You can major in anything you want, but just make sure you have taken the required courses for the med schools you are interested in. As far as a “not too difficult major,” Vandy is pretty intense and you will have to work hard no matter what major you choose. There are very few, if any, easy A’s, so find a major you like because you will spend a lot of time studying. The “work hard, play hard” reputation is totally accurate.
