Hi. My son applied RD in late December and has not received any type of communication from Vanderbilt. Does Vanderbilt have an applicant portal page and if so, has anyone who's applying RD received information on accessing it? Thanks!

No, there is no portal page. Vandy will send an email either confirming the application’s completion or letting you know what’s missing.

Personally, I received a “receipt” of application when I applied on like 11/30 confirming that Vandy had submitted the commonapp. They contacted me again on 12/15 to list the items that I had not yet submitted. They contacted me for the final time on 12/28 to confirm that they had received all materials and my application was complete.

I am not certain but I think it is a little unusual to have heard nothing by now (hopefully current applicants will weigh in). You can call/email the admissions office to get an update on the status of your application.

Thanks, Pancaked - much appreciated. I’m having him check his spam folder and if it’s not there, he’ll email his admissions counselor. I agree that it seems strange to not have received anything.

I have called the admissions office twice since my son was accepted ED1…they are super nice there…made me feel like they were actually glad I had called to ask my questions instead of stupid for bothering them. If you are worried about something, I would not hesitate calling to double check.

Thanks, Lucky - he’s going to search his email to be sure it didn’t end up in the spam filter and if nothing’s there, we’ll contact Admissions. Congratulations to your son!

Not to be all doom and gloom, but it’s really smart to be looking into this. When I told our neighbor last spring that our son was going to Vandy, he was all down on it. Turns out his older son had applied a few years earlier, and when all the decisions were coming back from all the schools in March, he did not hear anything from Vanderbilt. And did not hear. And did not hear. He finally called to find out his application either did not make it at all or was incomplete (I can’t remember which – if something was missing or they did not get the main application. I also don’t know if this was pre-Common App, since I don’t know when Vanderbilt started using the Common.) Anyway, glad you are on top of it (much more than I was last year! I would never have thought to ask my son if he was getting stuff from his schools!) The emails from the all the colleges including the many many to which he is not even applying can quickly fill up students’ inboxes, as I am sure your son is already very well aware. Our school’s email, which my son used, has a very strict spam filter too. If I had a do-over (and with any luck, I will in a few years I will have my child create a separate email address just for college stuff.

OP, don’t call the admission office yourself. have your son call them instead.

LBowie - thanks for your advice. Last night we both realized he’d had no communication. And yes, his mailbox is close to exploding so I’m sure that’s part of it. Myboby123 - he’s going to email his admissions counselor. He’s deaf so email is a lot easier vs. the phone. I’d thought of that - much better coming from him!

My son is not deaf (but his sibling is!), and successfully used email to contact his admissions counselor at Vanderbilt. She always responded within 24 hours, if not sooner. I don’t think he ever called her.

What a small world! Is your other child at Vanderbilt?

Indeed! The younger one is still in high school, and only a freshman, so it will be a couple years before he’s looking at colleges. And the older one is a freshman at Vanderbilt.
