<p>Hi, I was wondering if I'd be a top-competitor for any of the full-tuition scholarships from Vanderbilt. Here's some of my stats:</p>
<p>SAT: 2400 (800 M, 800 CR, 800 W)
GPA: 4.0 Unweighted
9 AP Classes (all 5's)
SAT 2's:
World History 760
Chemistry 800
Math 1 and 2 (800)
US History 740
Extracurriculars:
Varsity tennis team (9,10,11,12)
Tennis coaching (9,10,11,12)
Tutoring--paid and volunteer (11,12)
Volunteer organization--I have a leadership role (9,10,11,12)
Working at a fast-food restaurant (11,12)
Working out at the gym (does this count??) (11,12)
National Honor Society (11,12)
Hospital volunteer work (11,12)</p>
<p>Also, what areas do I need to work on in order to receive a full-tuition scholarship from a school as good as Vanderbilt?</p>
<p>Your stats will put you in the initial running for any of the schools. Keep in mind that CAS, Engineering, Peabody and Blair all award their own scholarships, and they are probably not looking for the same things when it comes to extracurricular activities and course selection.</p>
<p>If your ECs and elective courses don’t make it clear why you would be an asset to CAS/Engineering/Peabody/Blair as well as Vanderbilt as a whole, then perhaps your essays can serve that purpose.</p>
<p>I don’t think working out at a gym will count for much as for as the scholarships go. Just listing NHS isn’t meaningful unless you do a lot with it and for it. Leadership is no doubt important, but you will have to explain exactly how you are a leader.</p>
<p>The three major scholarships are looking for different things. Tailor the essays accordingly.</p>
<p>And don’t forget that the competition for the awards is extreme. Grades and scores absolutely don’t do it alone. (Son of a friend had a 2400, perfect grades, many APs with 5, and did not get one.) Also keep in mind that there are often smaller, but still significant, merit awards distributed when admission decisions are announced.</p>
