Hi, I am looking to major in physics and I was wondering whether Vanderbilt, WUSTL, UC Berkeley, or Johns Hopkins would have the best program. I am leaning towards applied physics as opposed to theoretical physics, although I do not know if it makes much of a difference in terms of the undergraduate program. Any additional comments on campus life, dorms, food, partying, etc. would be much appreciated. Thank you!

UC Berkeley probably has the best physics department of all of those, however, all my friends who go there say it is a “research institution that also happens to do some teaching”. While it has the best physics department, its undergrad teaching is lacking compared to the level of teaching of the private schools.
Of the other three, I wouldn’t go to Johns Hopkins for physics, I would go WUSTL or Vandy. Both are pretty similar, Vanderbilt has a little more of a fun atmosphere, but I would just pick whichever gives you better finaid if you’re not someone that likes to party.

I’d say Vanderbilt has the best undergrad experience of the schools on that list, and also seems to be the most generous with aid. I didn’t look into the physics program when I applied, so I can’t comment on that

bump bump bump

I lost you at the 2nd vs…
