Recommendations:
Counselor: 8/9 out of 10. I meet with him regularly to discuss my courses and college plans. He knows my dedication to my school work and outside activities
AP Language teacher: 10/10. She absolutely loves me and I participated in her class everyday. She was the best teacher after I returned to school junior year after a week long hospital stay and has continually applauded my focus on making up missed work although she offered to exempt it.
AP Chemistry teacher: 9/10. We had a small class, 15 students, so she got to know each one of us really well throughout the year. I had also known her from basketball earlier.
Possibly my band teacher as an extra recommendation. 10/10. I have been in his class all 4 years of high school, so he knows me very well. I also play in before school jazz band for him.

@hoorent what algorithm?

Solid chances but not a sure thing. Your numbers + ECs fit with what usually gets accepted EDI, but nothing sticks out that would definitely get you in. If you can improve your ACT with the September test, that will bump up your chances some.

I did go up to a 34 with the September ACT. Do you think this is good enough or should I take the October test?

No, a 34 is definitely good enough, especially for the EDI round. That’s a very good score in the EDI pool, and will help your app a lot. I wouldn’t retake. Studying/retaking the ACT can kind of be a stressful experience, and the effort would be better placed in other areas.

Now that the ACT is out of the way, you could maybe take two SATIIs where you feel like you can get 800s. That might have some marginal benefit. The area that you should really concentrate in is writing really strong essays. The personal statement is the key part of telling the “story” of your application, and is what makes you interesting to adcoms. Spend plenty of time planning, writing and editing. It would be good to start writing now, so you have a few weeks for edits.

Overall, I think you have a very solid shot at EDI acceptance.

I have been working o my essay, so it should be good. Thank you for the advice, Vanderbilt is my dream school and i really hope I can get in.

congrats on nailing that 34! best wishes in your college admission cycle. happy for you.
