I know they are different. Wondering if anyone has any direct experience with both these schools? USC is larger, more diverse, big time alumni network in So Cal, sports, and urban. Vandy has the top 20 academic reputation, but how are graduates viewed on the 2 coasts and outside of the South?

Vanderbilt is the more prestigous college, but you should visit and see which place would be best for you

Oh my gosh, we had the exact same question two years ago. The link to the thread in timetodecide’s post is the one I started when we were trying to choose. Read through the whole thing–we found it very helpful. D ended up choosing Vandy and loves it, but she still wonders what it would have been like at USC. Given that we live within long driving distance to Vandy and that USC would be a long flight for us, we’re really glad that she chose Vandy. Even though D thought she’d never want to come home once she started college, she has come home several times a year for various reasons, and that would not have been possible if she had been at USC. But, both schools are fantastic. It was a tough choice for us.
