Hi DD, a sophomore in HS, is considering a few summer intensives. We have looked on the usual ballet forums, but there is little information about a couple of these intensives, such as Atlanta Ballet and Ballet Austin. Does anyone have any feedback on these programs? In our area, most girls in her school go to the east coast programs, such as ABT, SAB, Boston, Miami, Ellison, etc. She is planning on dancing in college and will start looking at some college programs this summer and this forum has always been helpful. Thank you.
I know this is a little late, but my dd attended Ballet Austin last summer and loved everything about it. Loved the city, the dorms and the dancing of course. Plenty of young men in the upper levels for partnering. Far more partnering than she had at other SIs such as ABT.
The only caveat is the Ballet Austin style. She describes the style as modified Balanchine. It was her first true exposure to Balanchine style movement and she loved it. It was a great fit for her. This is not a great fit for everyone.
Dd was seriously considering returning to Austin until a scholarship elsewhere turned her head. She may very well return in the future.
