What are the chances of a Varsity Athlete being accepted with a 3.2 GPA, SAT 1750, from a strong Catholic High School, and involved in community service and high school sports.

I think a lot will depend on the reputation of your high school. If it is a very challenging high school, a 3.2 there will be given more weight. If you are a recruited athlete and you have a coach pressing your case strongly this will also help. Holy Cross is in the Patriot League and so varsity athletes must meet the Academic Index of the school which means they must be academically representative of the student body at the college. The average GPA for incoming freshman at Holy Cross is 3.7.

Is a 3.2 in the Academic Index of an average 3.7 GPA??

I think that the varsity team as a whole has to meet the Academic Index so there will be some higher and some lower than the average but the overall average has to be the same as for the school as a whole.

jocko:

A GPA 3.20-3.29 is worth 66 academic index points.

For a quick approximation:
Take your SAT math and verbal and drop last 0 of each. ie 650, 650 = 130.
Add 66= 196 for your academic index.

Do you know what HC mean academic index is?
If you assume 210. I believe all teams have a target of 1sd from mean or 196 approx.
There is a floor for all athletes of 2sd from mean or 182 in this example.

Hope this helps. Can any provide information on the actual AI for HC's entire class??
